Kranium Helmet by Anirudha Rao. The corrugated cardboard structure is an alternative to polystyrene, being cheaper, stronger and absorbing up to four times more impact. The helmet has been tested to British Standards and was proven to last up to five impacts, compared to one for polystyrene.
As well as better protection, the user can also get their head scanned to get a perfectly fitting helmet. The product is a wonderful exploration of alternative material use, showing that the lightweight and sustainable material may supersede the polystyrene in the near future.

Designer´s Inquiry - How designers are / work / live

Italian designers launched an inquiry on the socio-economic condition of designers today, they have been working on for quite a while with a group of young Italian designers they are part of since last autumn. The idea would be to collect a big number of responses from all over the world, in order to reach a critical mass of data that has the power to tell something relevant about how designers are/work/live.
Therefore, it would be fantastic if you could help them spread it as widely as possible through the internet. They need people like you to forward and post about the initiative, as this helps it get momentum.
The link to the questionnaire is included here: http://pratichenonaffermative.wordpress.com/designersinquiry/
Direct link to the survey in English: http://designersinquiry-en.questionpro.com/
It takes about 15 minutes to fill it in and it will stay on-line until the 20th May.
